Barranquilla or Bogota?

October 1, 2009

There are three reasons why I think Barranquilla is a better place to live than Bogota and therefore, one of the best cities in Colombia. First, Barranquilla has a great weather, but Bogota doesn’t. Barranquilla is sunny, warm and hot, but Bogota is cold and rainy.Second, Barranquilla has beaches and a lot of space for people to have a wonderful time together. Otherwise, Bogota only has parks and museums. Finally, people who live in Barranquilla are talkative, extroverted, outgoing, open-handed, outspoken and you can make small talk everywhere. On the other hand, people from Bogota are reserved, bashful, and a little bit shy. As a result, Barranquilla is a desirable place to live.

About the Death Penalty

September 18, 2009

Nowadays the death penalty is a very big issue. Not only does it often torment the minds or thougths of many citizens, but it also has significant effects on the way in which our societies develop and on the manner in which we view the people within them.
Personally, before I watched the movie “the life of David Gale” I was absolutely for the death penalty, because we are immersed in a world in which many people murder, kidnap, rape, and commit many others crimes without being punished, and an efficient strategy to avoid crime keeps going up is using the death penalty, because it is normal that most people have a natural fear of death and if every person who committed a crime died, the homicide rate would be very low because no ones likes to die, therefore we could save the lives of thousands of victims.
Nevertheless, after I watched that great movie , I changed a little bit my point of view, because I noticed the death penalty most of the time is far more likely where a white person is murdered than where a black person is murdered; in others words, the death penalty is racially divided, because it appears to count white lives as more valuable than black ones.
Besides, we are not “Gods” to decide when the life of a person ends.
In conclusion, the death penalty is clearly a topic or issue about what we should reflect upon very deeply before we come to any firm conclusions.

My life on Sundays

August 28, 2009

PICT0013 Every Sunday I don’t only  love getting up late but also like to spend time with my friends in leisure and outdoor activities.  First, I take a shower and I immediately have breakfast with my brother. After I do some chores, I watch TV, especially sports, for about two hours. Then, I get ready to go out with some of my friends. They almost always arrive at midday and we chat for a while. Later, we  go to a restaurant to have lunch together. We usually go to “pikoriko”, because we all like eating broasted chicken. After that, we often go to the countryside for a nice walk, or go to  somebody’s house to listen to some music and drink some beers. I finally get  home at about seven o’clock, watch a film on TV and then go to bed at midnight.
I really enjoy spending time with them, because everytime I do it, I get  the opportunity to have a great time.

Why do I love English?

August 13, 2009

Do you think it’s necessary we speak moI love Englishre than one language?
Believe it or not, it is. Nowadays people should speak at least one language different to the native one, because one of the most important requirements to get a good job is to know English or any other language.

Moreover, if you have already learned or if you are trying to learn a foreign language, you are going to be able to expand your knowledge of its vocabulary, grammar culture and literature; consequently, it will help you to improve your chances for success in you career.

For that reason, I’m studying foreign languages, because I love English, I like American Culture and  I’m positive I will have  more possibilities to find a great job.

My expectations from the advanced course

July 30, 2009

Well, I’m taking this advanced writing and speaking course because I’m studying foreign languages and it’s a great opportunity to improve two of the four communicative skills (writing and speaking) requiered to be considered as a non-native speaker.

Also, if I learn English, I’ll be able to get access to scholarships out of the country, and I’ll have more and better labor opportunities.
